APCMA Reports 48% Rise in Cement Imports and 24% Drop in Sales

According to recent reports, the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has released a report stating that cement exports experienced a boost of 48.46% in March 2023, with export volumes increasing to 438,433 tonnes compared to 295,321 tonnes in March 2022.

However, the report also reveals a decline in total cement sales for March 2023, which stood at 3.795 million tonnes compared to 5 million tonnes in March 2022, indicating a drop of 24%.

Additionally, local cement sales by the industry were recorded at 3.356 million tonnes, compared to 4.710 million tonnes in March last year, a decline of 28.75%.

The north-based cement plants sold 2.82 million tonnes of cement in March 2023, a decline of 28.22% YoY, while the South-based plants sold 374,467 tonnes of cement, a drop of 9.48% compared to March 2022.

In the local market, the North and South-based cement mills witnessed a decline of 29.33% and 26.14%, respectively, in March 2023, compared to the same period last year.

The report indicates that exports from Northern mills increased by 24.63%, and Southern mills increased by 57.40% in March 2023 compared to March 2022.

The APCMA spokesperson attributed the decline in sales to slowed construction activities in the northern and southern regions, which were affected by the current economic situation.
