During the three days of Eid ul Azha, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) efficiently managed the collection and distribution of offal and remains from approximately 130,000 animals weighing 2,278 tonnes. The waste removal plan implemented by the CDA was booming across the city.
The city was divided into four zones to facilitate the process, each with designated collection points. Equipped with machinery, tractors, trolleys, and compactors, sanitation teams began their operations early in the day.
On the first day of Eid, the CDA reported that the capital witnessed the sacrifice of over 94,000 animals. This included approximately 52,000 small animals (goats and sheep) and more than 42,000 large animals (cows, bulls, and camels). The weight of the collected offal and remains on the first day amounted to around 1,676 tonnes.
The second day saw the sacrifice of around 31,000 animals, with the CDA collecting waste from 18,000 small animals and over 13,000 large animals. The total weight of the collected waste on the second day reached approximately 542 tonnes.
On the third and final day, the offal from around 2,600 small animals and 1,400 large animals was collected and disposed of, resulting in a weight of approximately 60 tonnes. About 72,000 small animals and 58,000 large animals were sacrificed during Eid.
To manage waste disposal effectively, the CDA dug more than 97 pits at 45 different locations. Additionally, emergency cells were established at two different places in the city to ensure proper sanitation arrangements.
Before Eid, the CDA distributed biodegradable plastic bags to residents and set up a helpline to provide assistance during the festivities.
It is worth noting that the garrison city also disposed of 12,300 tonnes of offal and waste, highlighting the successful waste management efforts undertaken during the Eid period.
