DG Khan Cement Company Limited (DGKC) – the country’s largest cement maker – will export cement to the United States (US) for the first time, according to news released on June 14th.
Bloomberg reported that DGKC Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Inayat Ullah Niazi said the cement maker will ship 50,000 tons of his building materials to the United States. The US vessel is currently being loaded in the port of Karachi. The sale of this cement to the United States is said to increase the country’s export earnings.
Cement sales in May 2022 fell by 15.85% to 3.32 million tons compared to his 3.94 million tons last year, according to reports. Export shipments fell to 171,915 tons in May 2022 from 746,550 tons in May 2021, according to the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Total cement shipments (export and domestic) were 47.62 million tons, down 8.8% from last year.
