Google to Open Office in Pakistan

Google, the world’s largest search engine and video-sharing platform is to open a liaison office in Pakistan. 

Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunications Minister Syed Aminul Haque announced on Friday (9 December) that the global giant has registered as a company in Pakistan. It was said that a delegation from Google Singapore will visit the country next week and the company will announce the establishment of a functioning office in the country. 

He further said that TikTok has also agreed to set up a liaison office.Facebook and Twitter have indicated that they cannot open offices in Pakistan, but Google has taken the lead with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). ) was registered.

According to the details, registering a company is the first step to setting up an office in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on Removing and Blocking Illegal Online Content 2021. News sources said social media platforms must comply with national laws and norms after registering and opening offices.

In addition, the regulation also requires social media platforms to have secure servers within the country so that data is well protected. All platform data is currently stored overseas. In a further development, Foreign Minister (FM) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited his Meta (Facebook) Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore to launch the ‘Stars Program’ for monetization in Pakistan. Specifically, the program contributes to the capacity building of young entrepreneurs.
