The Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA) has announced that the Rs5 billion Kalma Chowk Remodeling Project is nearly complete.
The project has opened the Central Business District (CBD) Punjab Boulevard and Upper roads of the Centre Point and CBD underpasses for motorists, providing a signal-free drive from Barkat Market to Cavalry via Kalma Chowk, Centre Point and Lal Shahbaz Qalandar underpasses, and Barkat Market to Mozang and Cantt via Kalma Chowk Underpass.
Construction work on the project began in December 2022 after the contractor mobilized the necessary machinery and labor to the site.
According to officials, the construction of underpasses originating from Kalma Chowk Underpass and ending at the CBD high-rise project area and the centre point leading to Firdaus market is in its final stages.
PCBDDA Executive Director (Technical), Riaz Hussain, stated that the project has been completed with a 24/7 working model in a transparent manner.
The project aims to provide seamless access to the CBD at Walton while minimizing disruption to existing traffic. The first underpass of the project from Barkat Market to the CBD area at Walton is 285 meters in length and has two barrels.
The project’s two-lane underpass-2, which turns toward Ali Zeb Road from Centre Point, measures 632 meters and has two barrels.
With the completion of the project, the Gulberg main boulevard is now a complete signal-free corridor from Barkat Market to Siddique Trade Centre and then the entire Jail Road till Qartaba Chowk/Mozang.
The project’s completion is expected to provide a hassle-free entry to the business district and make it easily accessible to motorists.
