On December 31, news media claimed that the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) had published a notification for the updated Lahore Master Plan 2050.
The regional plan for the Lahore Division and the master plans for the major urban areas within the divisions would be incorporated into the new master plan, according to a statement from the Punjab government. This comprises the recently developed northern section of the Sheikhupura district, which was built to accommodate the district of Lahore’s expanding population.
The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), Punjab Central Business Districts Development Authority (PCBDA), and Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) have also had their plans and strategies included into the framework.
The announcement states that the updated plan includes the following demands and recommendations:
All previous master plans, outline development plans, structure plans, and site development plans will be replaced by the new master plan, which will go into effect on January 1 and be evaluated in 2030 and 2040.
It is significant to note that the plan was authorized by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on December 21 by the LDA Act 1975 and LDA Master Plan Rules 2014. Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Parvez Elahi presided over the meeting. After Islamabad, the Lahore Master Plan 2050 is the first ever for a Pakistani metropolis.
