RDA takes up stalled underpass project to make Murree Road signal free

  • Last Updated on: 15 April , 2024

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced its intention to revive a project that was stalled for five years.

The project aims to create a signal-free corridor on Murree Road by constructing an underpass at Liaquat Bagh Square.

The RDA had previously spent over Rs11 million on a feasibility study in 2017 to determine whether a flyover or an underpass should be constructed. However, the project was shelved in 2018 following additional suggestions from the consultant Nespak.

The authority has now submitted a new plan to the Punjab government, which involves constructing an underpass on the Saddar to Faizabad road and a link road for Liaquat Road towards Fawara Chowk.

The RDA director general has stated that the underpass will help reduce traffic congestion at Liaquat Bagh Chowk and will be included in the new annual development program of the Punjab government.

The flyover at Liaquat Bagh was deemed unfeasible due to the high cost of acquiring land on both sides of the square.
