In a recent announcement, the Sindh provincial government has allocated a substantial amount of PKR 8.5 billion for the Phase II development of the Coastal Highway Project.
The project aims to extend the 31-kilometer-long Coastal Highway from Buhara to the Keti Bundar villages, ultimately reaching the Arabian Sea.
While Phase I of the project, connecting Buhara to Hargenia Salt near Bhanbhore and then to the National Highway, was completed after facing significant delays, Phase II encountered various issues, resulting in a delay of several years.
The primary objective of Phase II of the Coastal Highway Project is to revive and rehabilitate the declining fishing industry in the deltaic region. Additionally, the project aims to ensure that the coastal settlements have access to an adequate potable water supply by providing swift and convenient water access.
While elaborating on the further benefits of Phase II, MPA Zardari emphasized that the coastal roadway would enable swift response by rescuers during water-related disasters, sea storms, boat capsizes, and other emergencies.
Moreover, MPA Zardari highlighted that the development of the coastline highway would significantly contribute to promoting tourism in the region. The project is expected to create internationally-standard infrastructure within a short timeframe, boosting the tourism sector.
