Cement Dispatches in Pakistan Decline in June 2023, Exports Show Promising Growth

In a recent report, the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) revealed that cement dispatches in Pakistan experienced a significant decline during June 2023. 

The association has called upon the government to extend support to export-oriented industries to revive the presence of the cement sector in international markets and help the country overcome its current challenges.

According to the monthly data released by the APCMA, total cement dispatches for June 2023 amounted to 4.063 million tons, indicating a substantial decrease of 22.80% compared to the dispatches of 5.264 million tons during the same month in the previous fiscal year.

Further data analysis highlights the industry’s significant decline in local cement dispatches during June 2023. The local dispatches amounted to PKR 3.487 million tons, reflecting a decrease of 29.97% compared to the 4.979 million tons in June 2022. However, the exports witnessed a notable increase of 102.59%, with volumes rising from 284,471 tons in June 2022 to 576,309 tons in June 2023

Regarding regional distribution, cement mills in the northern region dispatched 2.950 million tons in June 2023, marking a decline of 30.08% compared to the 4.220 million tons dispatched in June 2022. On the other hand, cement mills in the southern region dispatched 1.113 million tons during June 2023, indicating a 6.60% increase compared to the dispatches of 1.044 million tons in June 2022.

Breaking down the figures for domestic markets, the dispatches of cement by the northern mills amounted to 2.855 million tons in June 2023, showing a decline of 30.75% compared to the 4.122 million tons dispatched in June 2022. 

Similarly, the southern mills dispatched 632,093 tons in local markets during June 2023, reflecting a 26.23% decrease compared to the dispatches of 856,863 tons in June 2022. 

While exports from the northern mills decreased by 1.88%, with quantities reducing from 97,163 tons in June 2022 to 95,333 tons in June 2023, exports from the southern region witnessed a remarkable increase of 156.78% to reach 480,976 tons in June 2023 from 187,308 tons in the same month last year.

The APCMA’s call for government support aims to revitalize the cement sector’s presence in international markets and foster its growth, enabling Pakistan to overcome its existing challenges.
